Canada Goose Versus Fishing Line

A juvenile Canada Goose was found on June 4, 2023 near Carnegie Science Center with a fishing line wrapped around her leg. Fortunately, a woman was able to capture him and bring her in to our center for treatment.

We removed the fishing line from her leg and started her on a course of antibiotics for a bone infection. Because she had been injured for some time, she was fairly emaciated and weighed only 0.84 kg (about 1.8 pounds) and required tube-feedings of EmerAid IC Omnivore over the course of 72 hours.

Once she was on a solid diet, she began improving steadily over the course of her stay at our center.

It took a few weeks, but her leg finally healed. She was able to be released back to her family on July 14, 2023.
