Laughing Gulls Sickened By Red Tide

These laughing gulls presented to Save Our Seabirds on September 15th and 16th with the same symptoms: lethargy, weakness, and inability to walk or stand.

Red tide toxicity was suspected, and both birds were placed on a treatment protocol. They also received three days’ worth of EmerAid IC Piscivore tube feedings as part of their supportive care regimen.

Both gulls were standing after one week, and started flying again after two weeks.

The laughing gulls were both released where they were found, on Siesta Key beach, on October 7th.
