Baby Mourning Dove Found Alone

We are a nonprofit, wildlife rehabilitation organization based in Decatur, Georgia. Our mission is to rehabilitate and release injured and/or orphaned songbirds.

In February 2023, we received a baby mourning dove. The rescuer found the dove on the ground among lots of adult feathers. No nest or other birds were in the area. The rescuer made a new nest and waited a few hours to see if a parent would return. None did. At that point he sought rehab assistance and contacted us.

Upon intake, we weighed the dove and monitored his ability to grow and gain weight.

When he was not improving we placed him on a formula diet that included Emeraid IC Carnivore. As soon as the next day, he had gained a gram in weight.

We use EmerAid in our baby bird food formulas for finches and doves. We have had great success using it not only for its ability to support growth but also for much-needed nutrition for baby birds.
