Red-Shouldered Hawk Hit By Car

red-shouldered hawk held by gloved handsThe following story about a red-shouldered hawk was shared with us by Florida Keys Wild Bird Center.

This red-shouldered hawk was found next to a highway. On examination we found that she had head trauma, most likely being hit by a car. We also found that she was emaciated and dehydrated.

We started her on subcutaneous fluids, anti-inflammatory, and pain medication. We began feeding her EmerAid IC Carnivore, as well.

She recovered quickly from the head trauma. After two days of EmerAid and fluids, we were able to start her on skinned mice.

She gained weight quickly and was released 10 days after she was admitted!
