Greater Roadrunner With Internal Injuries

greater roadrunner standing in cageThe following story about a greater roadrunner was shared with us by New Mexico Wildlife Center.

This young greater roadrunner was found alongside a road, presumably hit by a car. When it arrived in our hospital on July 6, 2022, it was depressed but reactive. It had audible lung sounds, indicative of internal damage.

After fluids and medications, the roadrunner perked up significantly, but was very stressed during its hospital stay. We offered a variety of foods, but due to its stress level, it refused to eat while in care, and regurgitated any pieces of solid food we tried to force feed.

We tubed EmerAid IC Carnivore twice a day until it was in good body condition.

It made a full recovery and was released back into its home territory. Meep meep!
