Herring Gull Suffers From Bacterial Infection And Ectoparasites

This herring gull fledgling was found on July 8, 2022, near a bridge. No parents were in sight. Fortunately, a member of the public contacted our wildlife center. We were able to instruct them on how to safely capture and transport the bird to our clinic.

Upon admission, the gull was severely emaciated and dehydrated with a bacterial infection and ectoparasites. He was immediately prescribed an antibiotic, antiparasitic, and fluids to treat his ailments. He was fed EmerAid IC Piscivore.

Eventually, he was able to graduate from eating EmerAid to being hand-fed fish. He then went to hunting live fish in his pool outdoors.

With medical care and proper pre-release conditioning, he was able to be released into an area with other herring gulls on September 2, 2022.
