Young Least Weasels Tumble From Hay Bale

We received a trio of young least weasels into care whose den was in a large hay bale. They tumbled out onto the cold, hard ground as the bale was opened for cattle in the middle of a field.

Because the hay had been transported several times spanning 24 hours, there was no way of confidently knowing where the mother was, and no way to reunite the family. Thankfully, the farmer who opened the bale came to their rescue, carefully scooped them into a box and immediately getting them to us for rehabilitation.

They were in good condition overall. After an exam, stabilization, and ensuring they were appropriately hydrated, we provided EmerAid IC Carnivore, along with other easily digestible foods, to provide the much-needed calories these furry, little, high-metabolic powerhouses require.

Soon after, we transitioned them to a natural diet. They continue to grow and thrive, and will be released when appropriate.
