Lethargic, Young Osprey Needs Nutrition

osprey flying away osprey released from carrierThe following story about an osprey was shared with us by Save Our Seabirds, Inc. in Florida.

This juvenile osprey was found on Longboat Key on November 29, 2021. It was on the ground in someone’s yard, fluffed and lethargic.

There were no external exam findings, so it is possible that the young patient was having trouble finding food in the wild. The patient was given EmerAid IC Piscivore care for two days, at which point it was gradually weaned onto soft fish.

After about 10 days of supportive care, the patient was feeling spry and feisty again!

The osprey was given some time in our outdoor enclosures to regain flight strength, then was released on December 24.
