Dozens Of Emaciated Red-Tailed Hawks

Over the course of the past month, the SPCA for Monterey County has received 12 red-tailed hawks exhibiting signs of emaciation. Nearly all were found grounded and weak, unable to fly away.

We start all of our emaciated birds on dilute EmerAid IC Carnivore, introducing full-strength EmerAid after 1 to 3 tube feedings. After 2 to 3 days of tube feedings, we slowly begin to introduce skinless and boneless meat, eventually adding in bones, then offering whole prey items. Introduction of solid foods and progression is only possible if the birds are able to digest the food.

Thanks to EmerAid products, our chance at releasing emaciated birds like these red-tailed hawks are made more possible.
