He weighed 4.2 kilograms (about 9.2 pounds). He was struck by a car and had fractured incisors, which is a very painful condition, even with medications. Like others before him, he was very reluctant to eat solid foods.<\/p>\n<p>We decided to offer him <a href=\"https:\/\/emeraid.com\/vet\/emeraid-herbivore-sustain\/\">EmerAid Sustain Herbivore<\/a>. It was a bit of an adjustment for him to slurp up his food from a bowl, but he quickly got it. He loved his Sustain and would clean the bowl, leaving no leftovers.<\/p>\n<p>His incisors grew back quickly. Before we knew it he was happily eating his Sustain and solid foods that were offered.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-8851\" src=\"https:\/\/emeraid.com\/vet\/wp-content\/uploads\/groundhog-teeth-appalachian-wildlife-refuge-202104a-300x300.jpg\" alt=\"groundhog with broken incisors\" width=\"300\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/emeraid.com\/vet\/wp-content\/uploads\/groundhog-teeth-appalachian-wildlife-refuge-202104a-300x300.jpg 300w, https:\/\/emeraid.com\/vet\/wp-content\/uploads\/groundhog-teeth-appalachian-wildlife-refuge-202104a-150x150.jpg 150w, https:\/\/emeraid.com\/vet\/wp-content\/uploads\/groundhog-teeth-appalachian-wildlife-refuge-202104a-768x768.jpg 768w, https:\/\/emeraid.com\/vet\/wp-content\/uploads\/groundhog-teeth-appalachian-wildlife-refuge-202104a.jpg 800w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/>We slowly weaned him off the Sustain and were able to move him to a pre-release enclosure where we monitored him for a time.<\/p>\n<p>He continued to improve and show us all the behaviors that are necessary to return to the wild.
