EmerAid® Intensive Care™ HDN™ Kidney Feline

or “Highly Digestible Nutrition” is a semi-elemental therapeutic diet scientifically designed to meet the needs of the feline with Chronic Kidney Disease. Developed by veterinarians and nutritionists, this formula provides controlled levels of phosphorous and low sodium, easily absorbable amino acids, increased potassium, l-carnitine, and omega-3 fatty acids. Intensive Care HDN Kidney Feline is designed to control clinical signs of uremia and minimize progression of kidney disease while sustaining lean muscle mass.

Storage, Handling & Expiration Date

Store in a cool, dry space. Refrigerate after opening, and use within 1 month of opening. The shelf life of an unopened bag is indicated by the “Best Before” date, which is 18 months from the manufacturing date.

Keep the powder dry until ready to mix with water, and use a clean, dry scoop. Do not cross-contaminate with scoops using non-EmerAid foods as contamination can cause harmful bacterial growth.

Mixing Directions

Standard Mixing Directions: Measure out EmerAid according to the proportions needed. Mix EmerAid using the scoop provided. Mix with hot water measuring 122°F (50°C). Mix well. Use a syringe to draw up the mixture. When finished, flush and clean the feeding syringe. Make fresh for each feeding. Discard remaining food after each feeding.

Feeding frequency and volume should be adjusted based upon patient response and under the supervision of a veterinarian.

Feeding Recommendations

Begin with 25% to 33% of resting energy requirements and gradually increase the volume and number of feedings based on patient condition. A volume of 5-10 ml/kg/feeding is generally well tolerated via esophagostomy or gastric tube. Resting energy requirements can be calculated using the following equation in most cats: [BW(kg) x 30] + 70. For cats weighing <2 kg, use [70 x BW(kg)0.75].
