Emeraid Sustain Herbivore®
Emeraid ® Sustain ™ Herbivore is a therapeutic diet scientifically designed to support herbivorous mammals, including rabbits, guinea pigs, and chinchillas, and herbivorous reptiles, such as adult iguanas, all tortoises, and some turtles, recovering from critical illness, suffering from chronic medical conditions, or underweight. Emeraid Sustain Herbivore is a high fiber, recovery diet designed to support herbivorous mammals, including rabbits, guinea pigs, and chinchillas, recovering from critical illness, suffering from chronic medical conditions, or underweight. Sustain Herbivore is also designed to transition the debilitated herbivore from intensive care nutrition to normal feeding.
Emeraid Sustain Herbivore exceeds the nutritional requirements for rabbits, guinea pigs, and chinchillas, and may be fed for prolonged periods of time (even years) when clinical condition requires. In fact, since the energy density of Sustain Herbivore is approximately 20% higher than most standard diets, weight management must be considered when animals are fed Sustain Herbivore ad libitum.
Emeraid Sustain Herbivore is a therapeutic designed to be used only under the supervision of a licensed veterinarian.
For patients with poor weight gain or malabsorptive conditions, Emeraid Intensive Care Herbivore may also be recommended.

- Fermentable or soluble fiber (hemicellulose, pectins, oligosaccharides) in the form of beet pulp, soybean meal, inulin, papaya, and xanthan, maintains a robust population of functional microflora in the large intestine and cecum.
- Contains all essential amino acids.
- A complete and balanced source of vitamins, minerals, fatty acids, and nucleotides.
- Hydrolyzed soy protein is an easily digestible protein, which helps the body quickly rebuild lean body mass.

- Measure level scoops, and do not pack the powder. Shake dry powder to facilitate mixing.
- Mix one part powder to one part very warm water measuring 122°F (50°C).
- The 400 g (3.5 oz) pouch and 2 kg (5 lb) tub come with a scoop. One scoop of Sustain Herbivore (6.5 g) can be mixed with 15 ml water.
- Stir the mixture until smooth.
- Use a syringe to draw up the mixture.

- Feed your patient immediately whenever possible, and always within 30 minutes of food preparation.
- Keep the syringe ± gavage tube in very warm water 103-105°F (39-41°C) until ready to feed.
- Discard any leftover formula. Make formula fresh for each feeding.
- Flush and clean the feeding syringe.
In the adult animal, stomach volume is estimated as 30 ml/kg (3% body weight). The first feeding is often one-third to one-half of this calculated volume, however the volume and number of feedings must be adjusted based on patient species and clinical condition.
